Anyway, to the ratings:
1. Asda Superstore In Birkenhead
Top pick for the week is the story of how Asda are building a superstore in Birkenhead with the creation of 250 full-time and 150 part-time job vacancies. Better get applying judging by its top ranking.
2. Waitrose New Online Store In Acton
Second place is a real job in a virtual store. Well, it’s real bricks and mortar but it functions as a virtual store, OK? Waitrose’s new online stores super-warehouse in Acton, West London, is generating loads of interest as witnessed by its position. You’ll have to fight hard for one of the 350 job vacancies – so, read our job application and interview tips and … good luck.
3. New Call Bring Call-Centre Back From India
Good news for anyone who’s lost the plot trying to make themselves understood to a call centre operator who just responds to every question with a wooden “Yes, yes”. It’s also good news for jobseekers in Burnley with the Lancashire town preferred to Mumbai. Recruitment has already begun!
4. Amazon Customer Service Centre In Edinburgh
Amazon is about to open a Customer Service Centre next to its huge Customer Fulfilment Centre in Dunfermline. 900 job vacancies are set to be created when the facility opens later this year.
5. Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre
It just won’t go. There are 14,000 job vacancies on offer at the new Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre. That’s a lot of opportunity on offer for the right people. Let’s just hope, after all this interest, that it doesn’t turn out to be a damp squib.
6. Autoglass To Make 400 Redundancies
Autoglass have come up with a rather bizarre reason for laying off 400 workers. According to them, the warmer winter and rising fuel prices has meant fewer accidents and, thus, a lower demand for their services. Perhaps there should be a TV campaign, “Save an Autoglass job – Drive Faster”.
7. How To Write A Covering Letter
The covering letter is what really sells you to an employer. The application form or your CV is just there to reassure the company that you’re suitable. The covering letter is what screams, “Pick ME!!!!” to them. As a result, how you write it and what you say in the limited space available is crucial. We tell you how to boost your chances.
Every week I hope and would pray (if I was a believer) that I’ve seen the last of these idiots. And every week, they’re back again. What sort of clot thinks we are a supermarket chain or a construction company? Most of the requests for application details are rude (through extreme brevity and use of language), ungrammatical and semi-literate. One wonders what goes through these dimwits’ heads. Actually, I think I’d rather not know.
9. John Lewis Store In Tamworth
It drifted out of our charts and now it’s drifted back in again. John Lewis is opening its £7m ‘At Home’ store inTamworththis Autumn and there are 200 job vacancies up for grabs. Get along there and make yourself known (but don’t get in the way). I can’t believe how long this blog has been in the charts for. It seemed unremarkable enough when I wrote it but, then, you never can tell, can you? John Lewis is opening a new store in Tamworth and creating 200 job vacancies.
10. Morrisons Superstore In Wrexham
Morrisons have been given permission to build a huge superstore at the old Wrexham Direct Works Division Depot. This has meant some serious re-organising for the local ambulance station because their access is being affected by the works. Anyway, the store opens later this year so it’s not an emergency that you apply but it is relatively urgent (Triage joke).
It’s been a busy week – our second busiest ever and only a smidgen behind the number one spot which was the previous week. Sadly there have been relatively few opinions posted (although the Autoglass blog has generated some vitriol). We’ve had an inordinate amount of wackos who want to drive one of our lorries or stack our shelves.
Divvies!
Anyway, remember jobseeking is just a numbers game but you can stack the odds by reading our interview and application tips. Just look at the editorials section.
