Not the happiest of weeks with the changes to the Agencies Act causing the expected problems and bad feelings. Another mandate from Brussels that comes across like the bit where the ugly sisters in Cinderella insist that the glass slipper actually belongs to one of them.
It’s the “One size fits all” mentality that accountants just love.
Anyway, back to the real world. Here are your hotspots for the week just ended.
1. Amazon – Rugeley Warehouse Fulfilment Centre
Still at number 1 so obviously hugely popular are Amazon’s 700 openings at their Rugeley warehouse.
2. Marks And Spencer Cheshire Oaks Superstore
Hanging on there at number 2 is Marks and Spencer’s new superstore at Cheshire Oaks near Ellesmere Port.350 jobs are on offer and there’s obviously a lot of interest.
‘If the cap fits, wear it.’ You don’t need to be unemployable – our site helps you get that cap off your head. But it’s surprising how easy it is to create a bad impression at any stage of the game.
3. Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre
Westfield Stratford, or Olympic City, is opening up 14,000 job vacancies, most of them in retail. Alternatively, you could enter the competition for the design of a wreath of native wild flowers for the athletes to wear.
5. Morrisons’ Wrexham Superstore
Morrison’s Wrexham Superstore with its 350 jobs is still a stalwart in the popularity stakes.
6. Waitrose Superstore, Walton-le-Dale
Walton-le-Dale’s Waitrose superstore, all 2,900 square metres of it, with warehouse, office space and vehicle maintenance unit on top of that, has 200 jobs to offer and is holding your interest.
7. SKY Call Centre, Gallowgate
Sky are building a new call centre at the Wellbar Central Building in Gallowgate. There will be 400 job vacancies up for grabs with another 400 being offered to SKY’s other workers who will transfer.
8. Buckingham Palace Job Vacancies
Prestige jobs, in name at least. If you have a family crest, don’t forget to include it in your letterhead.
9. Tesco Superstore, Newtonabbey
Tesco are building a superstore in the Northcott Shopping Centre in Newtonabbey on the outskirts of Belfast. There will be 200 new job vacancies when the supermarket opens.
The Tesco superstore in Yate will be needing hundreds of people – another good opportunity that’s attracting applicants.
Just outside of the top ten are:
- Waitrose, Chester
- Asda, Birkenhead
- Sainsbury’s Christmas jobs
- BHS, Hartlepool
- How to write a covering letter for your job application
Dipsticks of the Week
We were inundated with strong candidates for this exalted award. Anyway, these are the ones which were the most depressing.
First place: “This is to inform you that i have very keen interest in your organization. Ready to work anytime at any wage rate. I have attached my CV in the mail. Please let me know if you have any vacancy ASAP.” “loking for new expirence”
We had to give this top place simply because the idiot in question tried to post this comment on 10 different blog pages over a 2-day period and despite having been told he was a twit and sent to the ‘Am I Unemployable?’ page.
Second place: “I need to know when M&S are opening in Paris as I am trying to arrange a trip which would coincide with the opening.”
It’s hard to imagine the manager of Marks and Sparks on the Champs Elysées saying, “A votre service, Madame. Nous attendons pour votre visite”.
Third place: “i am very intrested in this job and have an aspiration and desire to fulfill and this is my first objective to complete in order to accomplish my aim”
If you can understand this, you’re as batty as the twit who wrote it. This one gets the ‘Gibberish of the Week’ award.
Well, another week in paradise comes to an untimely end. What will rattle your collective chops in the next 7 days? Only you can say.
