Let’s look at our weekly summary of what caught your collective eyes over the last 7 days.
1. Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre
The massive development in Stratford, London continues to dominate with its tantalising offer of 14,000 jobs. Will it deliver, though?
2. Amazon Customer Service Area In Edinburgh
If you don’t mind being involved with selling down the river (Amazon, joke – get it?), then there are 900 jobs up for grabs. If its high ranking on this site is anything to go by, beware of flying kilts in the rush for work.
3. B&Q To Take Over 31 Focus Stores
Out of Focus and into B&Q for staff at 31 of the bankrupt DIY’s company’s stores. Not so good news for many others, though.
The store opens in 2 weeks and this blog has been immensely popular suggesting that competition for the 40 jobs will be very fierce. If you didn’t already know, the store in question is at the Kingsway Retail Park.
5. Marks And Spencer Superstore At Cheshire Oaks
This blog is unsurprisingly attracting loads of attention since it concerns Marks and Spencer’s building of their second largest store in the UK – at Cheshire Oaks on Ellesmere Port. The 1.4 hectare shop will eventually provide work for 350 people, so better start reading our section on Marks and Spencer jobs (if you haven’t already done it).
6. Heinz To Make 1,000 Redundancies
Despite making a profit of £140m, Heinz have said that it will be closing 2 of its European factories (there are 4 in the UK) and making 1,000 of its workers redundant. So, who’s going to be toasted and who else will be in the soup?
7. Do You Get Paid For The Royal Wedding?
I thought we’d seen the last of this blog from our top ten. It seems that there are still loads of wrangles going on. What a mess this beanfeast for the over-privileged and gullible this has created. Still, while they’re contemplating the price of strawberries and cream at Wimbledon, the rest of humanity can get back to paying for their seats.
8. AEI Cables To Shed 120 Jobs
Another casualty of war as the government’s defence cuts are felt. AEI, a company which is based in Birtley, Tyne and Wear, is laying off 120 of its 350 workers although Trade Union, GMB, is questioning the way in which the news has been broken to staff.
9. How To Write A Covering Letter For Your Job Application
Some cracking advice here about how to make the most of your job applications. Don’t throw away your chances with a scrappy accompanying note that you dreaded writing – use your competitor’s fears to your advantage by turning out a letter that will grab your target’s attention and make you a ‘must-see’ for the interview shortlist.
10. BM Bargains Take Over 11 Focus Stores
BM Bargains gather at the feast of the great Focus roadkill event and get their slice of the pie by grabbing 11 of their preferred Focus joints.
This week our selection seemed particularly eclectic and it was good to see a few new faces appearing. What will be in next week’s exciting review? The answer is controlled by the lefthand button on your mouse – wield it wisely, Grasshopper.
