Another week comes to an end. On the bright side, Monday is a Bank Holiday, so it’s a chance to combine a doze in the sun with taking stock of your jobseeking situation. Here are the blogs that made it into the news last week – do they inspire you?
The 14,000 square metre superstore that Tesco are constructing in Yate took the biscuit this week as it pushed our long-running leader down into second place. If you’re in the Yate area there will be literally hundreds of job vacancies created when the supermarket opens in October.
2. Amazon – Rugeley Warehouse Fulfilment Centre
Not to be sniffed at, nor have they been, are the 700 job vacancies that Amazon need to fill if the massive warehouse that they’ve leased in Staffordshire is not to remain ghostly quiet. It doesn’t seem likely though given the thousands of applicants that they are reporting. Still, it’s not too late. Spend the weekend reading our interview and letter-writing tips and fire off an application on Tuesday.
3. Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre
Well, someone’s got to earn a bob or two from the London Olympics and it might as well be you. Competition is certainly fierce for these 14,000 jobs but they are still up for grabs so get scribbling!
4. Marks And Spencer Cheshire Oaks Superstore
Up a couple of places is M&S’ 1.4 hectare flagship store at Cheshire Oaks on the Wirral. When it’s finished, Marks and Spencer will be giving work to 350 people – will you be one of them?
5. Tesco Superstore – Forge Retail Park, Glasgow
Tesco are turning the old Woollies building on the Forge Retail Park ,Glasgow into a new superstore. When they’ve finished there will be a café, phone shop, photo printers, opticians and a dry cleaners. On top of that, there will be 350 job vacancies.
Burton-on-Trentis to be the home of a new ‘The Range’ store which is scheduled to open at the end of October but not before it has created 150 job vacancies. The site is the old MFI building but it will be almost unrecognisable after the facelift it’s having now.
7. Morrisons’ Wrexham Superstore
Morrisons are building a superstore on the site of the former council Direct Works Depot in Wrexham. The new supermarket will create 350 job vacancies and it looks like they’re going to be hotly contested.
8. Asda Superstore In Birkenhead
Staying in the Northwest, there are 400 job vacancies going at the new Asda superstore in Birkenhead.
Some spectacular and outstanding entries this week. For example, we had one chap post the same stupid message on six posts (nearly as bad as those moronic spammers that plague every webmaster). Even if we were the companies our guy hopes he’s writing to, should they be impressed by those antics? Anyway, the winners are at the end.
10. How To Write A Covering Letter For Your Job Application
Your covering letter is what will probably stand between you and getting that vital interview. If it’s badly constructed, a circular type, or just plain missing, you can kiss your chances goodbye. Don’t worry, though. We’ll tell you how to write them and all for free, too!
Just outside of the top ten:
- The Range creating hundreds of job vacancies in King’s Lynn
- Marks and Spencer – 140 jobs at Crystal Peaks
- Dunelm Mill in Grimsby– 50 jobs
- Waitrose in Chester– 70 jobs
- Tesco in Bedworth – 150 job vacancies
- Waitrose in Walton-le-Dale -200 job vacancies
Dipstick of the Week
The winner of this week’s ‘award is:
“I like to buy something from tesco”
With a close second going to:
“Iam writtin”
… and a tied third place to:
“I’m trying to apply for a job for the new tesco at the retail park at the forge but the website isn’t coming up”
“Looking for a managerial position in the new yate store.”
All of these are reproduced in full by the way!
So, that’s it. I wish you a good Bank Holiday weekend and thank you for subscribing to our newsletter.
