It’s still summer, just, but when the schools go back it starts to feel like it’s really over. One thing ends and another begins. But this is traditionally a good time of year to find employment so keep visiting us to see what we have to tell you about.
Here are the top stories that grabbed your attention last week.
1. Amazon – Rugeley Warehouse Fulfilment Centre
Still at number 1 is Amazon with its substantial offering of 700 job vacancies. You don’t have to be a bookworm to want to work there. Perhaps a skateboard or running shoes would be the best kit for getting from one end to the other of their huge warehouse in Rugeley. Anyway, if you don’t apply you won’t ever find out.
2. Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre
Yet another week in which Olympic City, otherwise known as Westfield Stratford, features highly. There are something like 14,000 jobs on offer, most of them in retail.
3. Marks And Spencer Cheshire Oaks Superstore
Marks and Spencer new flagship superstore at Cheshire Oaks near Ellesmere Port on the Wirral is creating 350 job vacancies. A lot of people have applied already, judging by the number who have clicked through this site, but who’s to say that you’re not just the sort of person they’re looking for?
4. Reading Jobs Fair – Penta Hotel – Thursday, 15th September
This Jobs Fair in Reading should have been well attended if its position in the ‘charts’ is anything to go by. 30 companies were due to be represented, including Tesco who were on the look-out for people to fill 1,000 job vacancies at their distribution centre in Whitely. Did you attend? Did you find it worthwhile?
5. Buckingham Palace Job Vacancies

"Dear Liz. I hear you have need of a regular divorce lawyer. I can give you discount for bulk contracts."
Those with arthritic knees need not apply: you’ll never cope with all the curtseying. But if there are any pot plants to tend, make sure you talk to them because that’s what they’re used to. These are prestige jobs, so expect the kudos to be part of the salary package. If that’s what you like, get your application in.
6. Morrisons’ Wrexham Superstore
Morrisons’ have chosen Wrexham, or more precisely the site of the former council Direct Works Division depot, for their new superstore, and the 350 job vacancies which it will create have been engendering interest for some time now.
Back up in the charts, this particular Tesco superstore, to be sited in Yate, is obviously attracting attention again prior to its opening in October. It will create hundreds of vacancies.
There has been a steady stream of interest in the new Asda superstore which is to be built in Birkenhead and be staffed by around 400 employees.
Well are you? If you’re as dim and discourteous as some of the people who’ve left us stupid and irrelevant messages, then you probably are. It’s not as if it’s an employees’ market these days!
10. Amazon – Edinburgh Customer Service Centre
Amazon are recruiting in the north as well, in Edinburgh. This one isn’t at Number 1, but it has a deal more vacancies with 900 compared to Rugeley’s ‘mere’ 700.
Just outside of the top ten are:
- Waitrose Superstore, Walton-le-Dale
- British Home Stores, Hartlepool
- How to write a covering letter
- Tesco, Forge Retail Park, Glasgow
Dipstick of the Week
Not so many dimwits this week but the quality was there and that’s all that matters!
First place: “im a student and im currently looking for a part time job can some one help me please”
I fear not.
Second place: “pls can i have some job vacancy lists of the jobs that will be going on in masrks and spencer new shop due to open in cheshire oaks please. Thanks”
I don’t think Marks and Spencer are going to be impressed by someone who can’t string a sentence together and doesn’t know how to spell the company name, either.
Third place: “I would like to know about the job vacant in your company. Process of applying and who will I contact. I am looking forward to your immediate response to my inquiry. Thank you and more power!”
Immediate response? Yes, I think there is one likely to be forthcoming – it’s what the [Delete] button is for.
