Top 10 Job Stories Week Ending 11th June 2011

Here’s our concise overview of what made you click in the week that’s just gone by.

1. Buckingham Palace Job Vacancies

Buckingham Palace Job Vacancies

This is an egalitarian society

With the happy couple suitably refreshed from their honeymoon, the hard facts of life are sinking in – e.g. the need to find butlers, valets, cleaners etc. Hey-ho, it’s tough work, this recruiting lark, but someone has to do it.

2. Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre

This one refuses to die. There are 14,000 jobs on offer (so it is claimed, anyway) at the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre in London. Is your face in the space?

3. Brighton City Futures Job Fair

80 employers crowded into the Brighton Dome this Thursday to host a jobs fair. There was also internet access for immediate job applications and free advice on hand to help. Trouble was, the jobs fair’s been and gone.

4. CityPOST Private Postal Service Expansion

How about this for a post round?

This story only burst onto the internet a couple of days back and the fact that it is at number 4 (and rising) is indicative of just how popular these jobs are going to be. It’s only 180 job vacancies but the idea of being a private postie clearly appeals in the land of the wee folk.

5. John Lewis – New Tamworth Store

It’s back again. After a week out of the charts, the news that John Lewis is opening a big store in Tamworth just refuses to go away. If you want one of the 200 jobs you’d do well to scour our editorials about job applications and interview techniques.

6. Am I Unemployable?

Wnat job at ur stor

Oh, I so love this editorial. For those who haven’t (yet) read it, every day we get more than our share of divvies and other assorted half-wits who a) think we are the companies we write about (do you really think that Tesco are going to have pages about Asda and Sainsbury’s jobs on their website, for example?) and/or, b) are so rude or semi-literate that they wouldn’t stand a chance even if we were. I’ve got to do a sequel for this blog.

7. New Derby Argos store

Down from Number 4 last week but still very popular. Argos will be opening a new store at the Kingsway Retail Park next week. If they’re still looking to fill one of the 40 job vacancies, and you’re interested, you’d better get your finger out – FAST!!!

8. B&Q To Take Over 31 Focus Stores

The sour smell of the fallen DIY giant, Focus, hangs in the air like the reek of a Christmas turkey’s remains. While this particular story was good news for staff at the 31 stores being taken over by B&Q, spare a thought for the many others who weren’t so lucky.

9. Coombs Hampshire Bakery Redundancies

The Midlands bakery chain closed its Rushy Mead premises along with 18 of its shops this week, making 120 people redundant. It appears that, not only does the company owe a six-figure sum, but the staff haven’t been paid, either. The odd thing is that the business has been run by a management team for the 2 years since the last time it was in administration.

10. Marks And Spencer Superstore At Cheshire Oaks

Marks and Sparks are set to build a massive 1.4 hectare ‘flagship’ superstore at Cheshire Oaks at Ellesmere Port on the Wirral. When finished, it is believed that M&S will be after filling 350 job vacancies so check out our very detailed section on Marks and Spencer jobs, too.

Well, I thought we’d seen the last of the Royal Wedding but seemingly not (look at what was Number 1 this week). So, if you are one of the wretched underlings that need to work for a living and you aren’t the sort who ‘couldn’t possibly cope without a butler’, then you’ve come to the right place.

Who can tell what will be in our charts next week? What dark boardroom secrets will come to light and what bright opportunities will open up? Just make sure you apply to the right website, though!
