Top 10 Job Stories Week Ending 10th September 2011

The sun has been shining but has it been a good week for you? With theUSeconomy suffering a nasty case of PTSD the whole world seems to be in turmoil. Well, that aside, here are the stories that you, our readers, have deemed most relevant.

Do you agree?

1. Amazon – Rugeley Warehouse Fulfilment Centre

Still hanging on in there in the top spot are Amazon and their 700 job vacancies. Amazon have taken over a huge warehouse in Rugeley and are looking to staff it from scratch. Have you submitted your application?

2. Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre

Olympic City aka Westfield Stratford is creating something in the order of 14,000 jobs, mainly in retail. This story has been in our top ten for ever.

3. Sainsbury’s Christmas Jobs

Just like the title says, Sainsbury’s are starting their Christmas recruiting campaign and they are looking for around 15,000 people. Last year the total was 14,000 and 2,000 people ended up with permanent jobs. Sounds like good odds.

4. Marks And Spencer Cheshire Oaks Superstore

Marks and Spencer are building a new flagship superstore at Cheshire Oaks nearEllesmere Porton the Wirral. Given the thousands of people that have clicked through this site in order to apply, I’m guessing that competition for the 350 job vacancies will be fiercely contested.

5. Tesco Superstore – Forge Retail Park, Glasgow

Tesco are converting the old Woollies on theForgeRetailParkinto a new superstore with, most importantly, 350 job vacancies. There will also be a café, phone shop, opticians and dry-cleaners.

6. Buckingham Palace Job Vacancies

By appointment only. I mean, you can’t just roll up and say, “Give us a job, missus,” can you? It would appear that the Royals have need of more than just cut-price divorce lawyers so get clicking and don’t forget to “Ma’am” everyone – even the other cleaning staff!

7. Morrisons’ Wrexham Superstore

Wrexham is to benefit from a new Morrisons’ superstore at the site of the old council Direct Works Division depot. This has been in our charts for a long time now which does suggest that the 350 job vacancies are going to be hotly contested.

8. Argos Christmas Jobs

Argosare already recruiting in anticipation of a busy Christmas period. If you fancy a bit of extra money and don’t mind working through most of the festive period, here’s your opportunity. Not only that, you get 10% staff discount on prezzies out of their catalogue. They’re after enthusiastic and passionate people immediately so go for it!

9. Asda Birkenhead Superstore

Asda are building a new superstore inBirkenheadwhich will create 400 job vacancies when it is finished.

10. Browne Smith Baker Closes

A bit of a surprise entry into the charts here. The architects’ practice chain, Browne Smith Baker, have gone into administration with 25 redundancies. Still, the good news is that the directors have already got a new business going.

Just outside of the top ten are:

  • Am I unemployable?
  • Marks andSpencerCrystalPeaks
  • Toys R Us (Birmingham)
  • How to write a covering letter
  • Matalan Christmas jobs

Dipstick of the Week

Spot the braincell

We had a disappointingly high number of twits this week. However, after at least 10 seconds of deliberation, the winners are:

First place: “loking for new expirence”

That was it. There was no more.

Second place: “I have been trying to get on to the tesco jobs for bedworth but you can not get on to it”

Who says I can’t?

Third place: “Hi, im intrested in vacnacy? dosent show any how to apply?”
That one wins the ‘Gibberish Award’ for the week.

This was our busiest week ever with a whole series of record-breaking days. Clearly more and more people are turning to our site for the news that matters. Have you bookmarked it?
