Royal Mail are creating 430 job vacancies at their Etruria call centre, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
The jobs are being offered to help cope with the anticipated Christmas rush. As a result, they will run from the middle of November until the beginning of January 2012. Workers will principally be involved with helping the existing data entry workers make sense of incomplete or illegible addresses.
The Etruria call centre is used by call centre staff during the day. At night, a team of data entry workers take over the premises and, using a photograph of the address from a package, endeavour to complete the address. Once this has been done, the mail can be sorted by machine – a process which is about 20 times faster than doing it manually.
The Royal Mail say that they are looking for workers who are accurate, possess good keyboard skills and who can concentrate and work under pressure.
