Marks and Spencer say that they perceive the Warehouse Section Manager job as very much that of the unsung hero. It is certainly true that, without careful logistics management, the whole store would rapidly grind to a halt. Therefore a high level of responsibility, an ability to think quickly, clearly and logically combined with excellent organisational skills, are all pre-requisite.

Relatively speaking there is little contact with customers of Marks and Spencer however there will be a steady stream of clients looking to collect from the rear of the store. The image that is presented needs to be one of calm control.

Although the bulk of the manual work will be done by the Warehouse team, the Warehouse Section Manager is expected to help out as needed therefore there is a requirement to do the occasional heavy lifting and operation of machinery.

Previous experience of organising a warehouse or transport department is expected.

Salary: £18,000 – £25,000 dependent on the location of the store and the post-holder’s level of experience. The natural progression for a Warehouse Section Manager is to become a Commercial Manager.
