As a Marks and Spencer Visual Merchandising Customer Assistant, your job is to work with your team to keep the image of the store in line with the M&S brand. Under the auspices of your Section Manager, you will also be looking to find new and exciting ways to market products in order to maximise the store’s global sales.

In consequence, the whole store will be your domain, and you will be involved in everything from arranging promotional displays to organising the main shop window so that it intrigues passers-by and entices them to come in and make a purchase.

In order to do this, you will need to carefully monitor sales and analyse what makes some products successful and then apply that knowledge to other items which are faring less well.

Of course, there are the seasonal displays to attend to – Christmas, Easter, Back to School, Valentines Day and so forth. Each one introduces its own challenges and will require a great deal of both originality and forethought.

Since the notion is for the Visual Merchandising to be only seen by their actions, much of their work is done outside of normal shop opening. Therefore there is a requirement to work flexible hours.

An artistic or creative background is definitely an added advantage and a personable nature is mandatory as, in your quieter moments, you will be asked to help other staff with their customers.
