As a Marks and Spencer Commercial Manager, your job will be to manage a section of the business in a major store. This will entail taking responsibility for motivating your staff (of up to a hundred) to put forward your ideas for providing a five star service.
To help you, there will be a multi-million pound budget behind you that will fund your plans for the store.
You will need to keep an eye on sales figures and balance sheets and be prepared to make winning changes to your strategy.
Marks and Spencer say that they are looking for someone who has:
- Previous store management experience
- Flexibility
- Ambition
- No problem working alternate weekends, making early starts or staying on for late night finishes
Obviously each job vacancy will dictate its own specific requirements however, typically, you will be required to demonstrate previous store experience entailing having:
- Managed a high street store or been a deputy manager of a large department store
- Had budgetary responsibility for a turnover of at least £3m
- Overseen junior managers
- Participated in the design of store layouts
- Made policy decisions regarding standards of service

Typical pay for a Marks and Spencer Commercial Manager is between £30,000 and £45,000 p.a. depending upon your experience and the size of the store.
