As a Marks and Spencer Clothing Customer Assistant, your job is to work in the Menswear, Ladieswear or Childrenswear sections and help with all aspects of selling garments to the store’s clients.
For example, these duties might include working on the till, taking orders for garments that are not in stock, learning to measure bra size by purely visual means, and supervising the fitting rooms. You will be expected to exercise excellent taste and judgement as you guide customers through the clothing selection process, advising them on colours, fit, materials, cleaning and so forth.
You will be working in close contact with people and, particularly when dealing with underwear or lingerie, you will be expected to exercise tact and diplomacy along with a friendly and outgoing approach. Your enthusiasm and product knowledge will frequently make the difference between a no-sale and a happy customer who makes a purchase and wants to return.
Since a good appreciation of colours and textiles is important, an art qualification or a creative background will be helpful.
Even though a Clothing Customer Assistant will normally specialise in just one department, there may be scope for gaining experience in the other clothing sections.
