As a Marks and Spencer Café Revive Customer Assistant, you will work in one of the 160 cafés that the company has installed in its retail stores across the UK and Ireland. You may be somewhat taken aback to know that far from a fringe activity of a retail store, Café Revive is actually the third largest chain of coffee houses in the UK and the first one to serve Fair Trade Organic Coffee.
During peak periods, the café can get very busy as shoppers take a respite from the important business of making purchases. They drop in for a hot drink and a chance to rest their feet for a moment and that’s where you come in. Even in the quieter periods, there will always be something that demands your urgent attention and therefore you will need to be self-motivated and to work well under pressure.
Your team will do just about everything concerned with running a thriving catering business – warming bread, making sandwiches, brewing coffee (of course), squeezing orange juice, serving behind the counter, delivering to table, clearing up, loading the dishwasher and so on. It can be very physically tiring and you will need to be on your feet for long periods at a time – can you cope with that?
If you’re feeling a bit intimidated by all the different types of coffee and how to serve them, don’t worry. Marks and Spencer have a full training programme and, at the end, you will be a fully-qualified barista.
