Gaining a Job in the UK Aerospace Industry

Aerospace is an industry of continual change and fast movement. For the right candidate a career in the aerospace sector could provide an exciting, challenging and diverse professional avenue.

Why you should consider a career in Aerospace

The UK’s aerospace industry is one of the largest in the world and employs over 100,000 people despite the negative effect the recent recession has had on the wider European economy.  The UKs aerospace industry has continued to fly high throughout the recent double dip recession, which saw the coalition government cut spending and defence orders. However, the government cuts have been counteracted by strong demands for Rolls-Royce engines and Airbus planes from the private sector.

Growing Demand, Increased Investment

With the 4.7% rise in revenues over 2012, which generated £24.4bn last year for the industry, thousands of new jobs have been created. The British aerospace trade body announced that workforce numbers increased by approximately 4,000 employees over the last 12 months.

EADS (The European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company) and Airbus have also announced that they are going to fund a joint UK government and industry initiative to provide up to 500 Masters Degrees in Aerospace Engineering over three years.  This initiative will support the development of young talent in an effort to keep the sector competitive over the decades to come.
