Albemarle & Bond, the UK-wide chain of pawnbrokers, have announced that they intend to open 25 new outlets during 2012, taking advantage of reduced High Street rent and lease charges.
The news follows record profits for the twentieth year running, having risen £1m to £21m for the year just ending. Albemarle & Bond say that they expect to create about 300 job vacancies as a result of the expansion.
The Reading-based group which also trades as Herbert Brown already has 169 outlets and a further 38 pop-up stores which specialise in buying gold.
Rapidly rising gold prices, onerous bank lending criteria and the recession have been credited as being the principal factors in the company’s success story.
